Social Justice Research

The one thing I had the most connection to speak out for is Housing Inequalities. As the years go there has been many families struggling to pay rent let alone buy a house because of the fact that rent has increased to such an extent that more than half the income in paycheck is reduced alone to pay rent leaving struggles for low income families. Alongside the fact that there is no state or county where a renter working full-time at minimum wage can afford a two-bedroom apartment, as well as 6.8 million more affordable housing units are needed for extremely low income families. This matters because each year the shortage gets worse, and that’s why people are homeless in our country and why families struggle to pay for groceries and visits to their doctor. I was able to deep further into this research from the source  https://nlihc.org/explore-issues/why-we-care/problem. For hundreds of thousands of people living in NYC, the apartments are ones that are most affordable to live in, however according. to https://anhd.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/ANHD-Preserving-the-Foundation-report.pdf "today, that system is fraying, with more than 63,700 homes already in financial distress and facing increasing strain". I find this to be very troubling as people are not even able to pay for the most "affordable" outcome for living by rent.

As for getting started with making the design to speak out for housing problems, I would want it in a way where it keeps simple design and more information but with the design being eye catching to grab the attention of the audience. I believe having a serif font that stands out for the title to pop up and a sans serif for the smaller captions would be good. As for the design motifs, I believe a use of squares in order to properly highlight the data and perhaps circles fit this design really well and the audience which this is trying to go for could do good for those who want more data in order to speak out for housing projects. Not only this but a magazine layout like 12 column layout grids would help me alot in making the social justice design. I really look forward to getting to work with this for the better of the people. Colors such as red stand out really well when speaking out for a specific issue which I look forward to implementing within my design as well.

This is a layout design of my sketch on how I want to get started, the first one being the layout for the pages after I have finished the cover and the last 4th one being the cover that I want to take further when we get started because I like my idea of a cracked house to show a problem with housing and that housing should be good for the people and not divided through inequalities and advantages taken with Money. For the sketch one of my inspirations was the design of the designer Ellis Pearce. The design is :

This design greatly inspired my 4th rough because I really liked the approach for the design by including a well made symbolic figure to speak out for health inequalities as its speaking out for using health for more profit. This topic also is kind of similar to mine because at the end it has to do with money and I really found the use of font and design really nice so it helped me in making my House divided design for 4th rough a lot.
